Three Apple suppliers plan to commit $900 million to India's production-linked incentive plan

  Three of   Apple Inc's   top contract manufacturers plan to invest a total of almost $900 million in India in the next five years to tap into a new production-linked incentive plan, according to two sources familiar with the matter.   Foxconn ,   Wistron   and Pegatron all plan to make investments under the scheme, said the sources, who asked not to be named as the discussions are private. India's new $6.65 billion production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme offers companies cash incentives on any increase in sales of  locally-made smartphones  over the next five years, compared with 2019-20 levels. The scheme aims to help transform India into an export manufacturing hub. Foxconn has applied to invest about 40 billion rupees ($542 million), while Wistron and Pegatron have committed to invest close to 13 billion rupees and 12 billion rupees, respectively, under the PLI plan, the sources said. Both the TV sets have an OLED display panel but support 4K and 8K resolutions, respectively. Mi TV Lux 82-inch Pro model offers 2000 nits peak brightness, whereas the Mi TV Lux 82-inch maxes at 1000nits brightness. The premium model offers 256GB of storage, whereas the 4K model offers 64GB of storage only. Apple may face European Union rules to open up payment technology

  The  European Union  is weighing legislation that could force  Apple Inc.  to open iPhone payment technology to competitors. The potential rules would grant other payment services a right of access to infrastructure such as near-field communication technology embedded in smartphones, the European Commission said Thursday, confirming a Bloomberg report last week. While the EU didn’t explicitly name Apple, it said the “most commonly reported issue” related to mobile device manufacturers restricting third-party access to NFC chips. The components handle wireless signals that allow users to pay via their smartphones or watches at store terminals. At present, iPhone and Apple Watch users can only make NFC payments using Apple Pay. Banks and other competitors have said they want the same functionality for their own iPhone apps but that Apple refuses access to the chip. The Ghost Extended, as the name suggests, is a longer version of the Ghost and is to be used mainly as a chauffeur-driven sedan. In terms of design, nothing much has changed. It is based on the stretched version of the standard spaceframe architecture used on the standard Ghost and this has lengthened the wheelbase considerably to 3,465 mm.
